It always felt funny to me to see a dish called Cajun Potatoes in the heart of Mumbai. I couldn’t understand what made them Cajun since you certainly didn’t get those particular spice mixes or chilies here. The truth is no matter the mystery, it was and still remains a popular dish that now forms a wave of nostalgia every time it’s mentioned. The restaurant chain Barbeque Nation with it’s several outlets across India made their signature dish so popular that even today while palettes have evolved and your spoilt for choice with dishes, the BBQ Nation Cajun Potatoes still has it’s loyal fan following.
What are Cajun Spiced Potatoes
It’s a simple recipe invited by a popular restaurant chain BBQ Nation and their Cajun Potatoes is a popular appetizer there. It’s baby potatoes served with a spiced sauce and it’s an easy enough recipe to replicate at home.
Recipe
1 packet baby potatoes
2 tablespoon corn flour
1 tablespoon maida ( flour )
Pepper
Salt
For BBQ Sauce
½ cup mayo
½ cup milk
Chilli flakes
Salt
Herb mix
Tomato Ketchup
Kashmiri Chilli Powder
For Garnish ( all optional )
Chopped Onions
Red Chilli Powder
Chopped Coriander
Method
Wash and clean the baby potatoes and boil them in salt and water for 10 minutes. Once boiled, press down with the back of a glass to crack them slightly or smash them.


Make a slurry with cornflour, maida, salt pepper and water and dip each smashed potato into the batter and fry them on both sides till they crisp up. Set aside on a plate.


Make the sauce by mixing the mayo, tomato ketchup, herbs and a little milk to thin it out. You can add more red chilli powder and more chilli flakes to make it spicier or balance it out incase the ketchup is too sweet. Taste the sauce to your liking.

Assemble the potatoes and spread the sauce on top of each of the potatoes, garnish with chopped coriander and or chopped onion or sprinkle of red chilli powder and enjoy.

How To Serve Cajun Spiced Potatoes?
Serving Cajun Potatoes is fairly easy. They work as a wonderful accompaniment to any dinner party or even work as an evening snack. Garnish it with coriander or chopped onion. These work well as a vegetarian side dish with kebabs or a rice preparation as well.
How To Store Cajun Spiced Potatoes?
I don’t think this is the type of recipe to store for later consumption. I wouldn’t advise it. At the most you can make the sauce before hand and store it in the fridge. I still recommend you make these fresh when you’d like to eat them.
